WRITERS’ CHAPTER STORY-OF-THE-MONTH  DECEMBER 2017

TSUNAMI

By: Peggy Offenberger

There is a reckless

Temper of the sea

Churning by a rubble rumbling

Tremble of shifting

Platelets deep below.

A thunder of water

Cruising with an imperial authority

Slams the bamboo villages.

For ten thousand, a final silence.

Wild flowers touched

With atomic rain,

Muscle through the mud

Struggle upward

To preach a better day.

Despite the mawkish

Taste of ashes,

A people of hope.

A people of will

Confident of better times,

Rinse their tears

And quicken to the task.
